Bahrain tenders at $1bn airport upgrade project

Bahrain’s International Airport is expected to undergo an expansion project of approx. $1bn and boost capacity to 13.8mn passengers a year, bringing it in line with other airports in the region that have either upgraded or are in the process of doing so.  The winner of the tender and project is soon to be announced.

Aluminium-agriculture to spur Bahrain-Russia ties

It is expected that ties between Bahrain and Russia will improve after discussions by senior key ministers at the two-day ‘Russia-GCC Trade & Industrial Dialogue’ held in December 2014.  Key areas of bilateral trade and investment were identified which include aluminium, aircraft, chemicals, biotechnology, agriculture and pharmaceuticals.  Other topics discussed were the activation of a Russian-Bahraini Business Council and visa-free travel for businessmen.

Bahrain awards tenders worth $2.3bn

Bahrain has seen an increase of 140% of awarded tenders from 2003 to 2013.  In 2013, 2,028 tenders worth BD900 million ($2.3 billion) were awarded compared to 1,342 tenders worth BD367 million in 2003.

Major medical city to be built in Bahrain

A multimillion-dinar medical city is set to be built in Bahrain’s Southern Governorate, on donated land from His Majesty King Hamad.  There will be 264 beds, four centres of excellence and research, a college of medicine and student dorms, as well as accommodation for doctors.

UK training delegation seeking partnerships

The UK Trade and Investment and the Training Gateway are bringing a group comprising of 20 universities, colleges and private training providers to Bahrain next week who will be looking for a wide range of partnership opportunities in Bahrain.   The opportunities shall include direct delivery of their courses, franchising or licensing their programmes to local training organisations, as well as opportunities to develop educational partnerships with local universities and colleges.

MAJOR ISLAMIC BANKING CONFERENCE OPENS TODAY

The Central Bank of Bahrain and the Economic Development Board are supporting the World Islamic Banking Conference (WIBC) which is meant to be the world’s largest with over 50 countries expected to attend consisting of the most in most influential international gathering of Islamic finance industry leaders.  Celebrating 21 years of growth, the conference will run from the 1st to the 3rd December.
