An announcement was recently made by the SIO (Social Insurance Organisation) regarding changes to the contributions made to the SIO for Bahraini employees. (Implemented by the provisions of Law No. (14) for the year 2022 which amends some provisions of the Social Insurance Law promulgated by legislative Decree No. (24) 1976.)
From May 2022 the employer’s contribution to the SIO for Bahraini employees will increase by 2%. Currently the contribution is 12% so with the increase it will become 14%. The employee’s own contribution will remain the same at 7%.
From January 2023 the employer’s contribution to the SIO for Bahraini employees will increase each year by 1% until a rate of 20% is reached in January 2028. For Bahraini employees, the current rate of 7% will increase to 8% in January 2023 and will remain at this rate.
